Get a Library Card

Register In Person

Bring picture identification and proof of your mailing address to the Bowen Library, and we can register you for a library card right away. If you like, you can start the process at home by printing off, filling in, and bringing in our New Borrower Registration Form.

Apply Online

Want to use our online resources or place a hold on library materials but don’t have a library card? Online self-registration is now available. After registering online, we will confirm your registration by email, and mail you a permanent library card with your barcode.

Types of Library Cards

Free Library Cards

Library cards are issued for free to:

  • All residents or property owners of Bowen Island
  • All residents of the Public Library InterLINK area (external link)
  • All other BC residents can have a BC One Card account with us. The patron must have a library card from their BC home public library.

Fee-Based Cards

Anyone else wishing to obtain a library card will be issued a card based on their permanent residence address according to the definitions below. Fees are charged for Visitor cards and Non-Resident cards.

Visitor Cards

  • A visiting patron is defined as anyone visiting or residing on Bowen Island for 6 months or less, but permanently living outside of British Columbia.
  • Visitors must show ID with their permanent home address.
  • Visitors are issued with either 1 week, 1 month or 3 month cards.
  • Visitors cards may be extended up to a maximum of 6 months.
  • After 6 months the patron should apply for a regular library card or an annual Non-resident card. Full borrowing privileges are granted to Visitor Card holders.

Non-Resident Cards

  • Non-residents are defined as:
    • Anyone living within the Public Library InterLINK region but in communities not signatory to the InterLINK agreement (i.e. University Endowment Lands, Belcarra, Anmore, etc.)
    • Anyone permanently living outside of British Columbia who is not a temporary visitor nor a property owner on Bowen Island and wishes to hold an annual membership.
  • Non-resident patrons are issued annual membership cards as individuals or as a family.
  • Full borrowing privileges are granted to Non-resident card holders.

Membership Responsibilities

Card holders are responsible for:

  • All materials borrowed on your card.
  • Charges on items that are lost or damaged. (See Loan Periods and Fines for details).
  • Reporting the loss of your library card to the library immediately. There is a $2.00 card replacement fee.
  • Informing the library of changes to your address, email, and phone number. It is important that we have your current information.
