Family Jam: Making Music Together with Shasta & Brian
Saturday, February 1, 2020 • 2:00 pm • Bowen Library Annex
Local music educators Shasta Martinuk & Brian Hoover lead a free all-ages percussive music circle, with guided games and jams—instruments provided! Children & their caregivers will play with rhythm, call and response, dynamics, singing, and more in this smile-inducing 45-minute drop-in session. (Participants may want to consider bringing ear protection for those with sensitive ears—it might get loud!)

Play our Family Literacy Week Book Bingo, read a variety of books, and discover new favourites! Find our printable Book Bingo sheet here, or pick one up at the Library.
Start filling in your Book Bingo sheet now, and drop it off at the library before Sunday, February 2, 4pm. Eligible entries will be put into a prize draw for a $50 gift certificate from Phoenix on Bowen. (Details on how to play are on the back of the Book Bingo sheet).
Kids’ Section Detectives – Guided Interactive Tours for Kids & Families
Be a Kids’ Section Detective! Join us as we use interactive activities, and movement to guide young readers and their families to explore and discover all the resources in the Children’s Section. For ages 4-12 and their caregivers. Drop in and meet us in the Children’s Section at one of these times:

TumbleBooks (Online Children’s Library) Walk-Through
Library Staff demonstrate the interactive reading website, TumbleBooks—a great resource for parents and educators. Learn how to access a variety of e-book resources for children, including animated books, read-alongs, language-learning story books, story-based puzzles and games, themed playlists, and more.
Daily Drop-In Games in the Annex
Drop in during Family Literacy Week for chess, Scrabble, puzzles, word searches, reading games, and more! A variety of activities will be set up in the Annex for drop-in family fun.
Literacy Handouts for Caregivers
Free printed literacy handouts will be available to help caregivers guide young readers of any age.
