Phil Gregory • Earth Month Talks
April 22, 2023 @ 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Bowen Island Food Resilience Society and the Bowen Island Public Library have collaborated to bring you Earth Month Talks, two talks filled with information, reasons for optimism, and ideas for building a healthy, safe, and resilient world.
Resilient Bowen Island: Helping to Build a Resilient Food System
Phil will talk about his recent book, Pathway to Regeneration, a hopeful message on how taking a different approach to the way we grow food can regenerate soil health, improve human health, and make a significant contribution to reducing atmospheric CO2. He will present some of the science behind regenerative agriculture and discuss our efforts to implement these ideas on Bowen Island at the Grafton Commons.
Dr. Phil Gregory
Phil Gregory is Professor Emeritus of Physics & Astronomy at UBC. Seven years ago he refocused his research to what is necessary to sustain human life on earth in the face of climate change, the looming collapse of agriculture, and an explosion of chronic diseases. His book, Pathway to Regeneration, shows how they are all interconnected and a key part of the solution is regenerative agriculture which is all about mimicking nature. Phil loves to share the fascinating invisible world of soil microbes that nature uses to build fertile carbon rich soil that grow plants without the need for fossil fuel based chemical inputs.
